Atlas Spine - Mount Pleasant: Performing Laser Therapy

A Way to Feel Better, Faster

Laser therapy is considered a highly effective tool for faster healing and reduced pain. Class IV Laser is the most advanced therapeutic laser and delivers the best treatment outcome.

At Atlas Spine & Wellness Care, we recommend laser therapy to about 75% of our patients. It has the potential to increase healing potential and decrease pain and inflammation. People get well sooner, so we don’t have to see them as often. By bringing more blood flow to the injured area, the amount of healing cells and nutrients increases.

Class IV Laser Therapy is a non-invasive form of treatment that stimulates tissue repair and growth at the cellular level. Patients report feeling a gentle warmth during the process, and treatment time averages about 5 minutes.

A major advantage of laser therapy is the ability to penetrate deep into tissues and joints, while also retaining the ability to treat conditions closer to the skin surface. Regardless of how deep the light waves penetrate, the energy is eventually absorbed by the damaged cell, providing it with a boost to stimulate production of ATP, the body’s energy source. As the cells are repaired, the body is able to decrease the sensation of pain, reduce swelling, and accelerate the time required to heal.

When tissues are damaged, cells begin to die, and scar tissue formation often begins. Both of these consequences may slow or even limit the healing process. Modern day laser units have been specifically engineered to produce the essential wavelengths of light necessary to energize the damaged cells, break up the formed scar tissue, and stimulate the healing process.
