Spinal Decompression
How Does It Work?
Chronic pain may become physically and mentally debilitating over time, even with treatment. In some cases, further intervention may be necessary. As an alternative to surgery, patients may elect to try non-invasive spinal decompression therapy at Atlas Spine & Wellness Care.
A natural and conservative approach to pain reduction, this therapy uses a specially designed traction table, which produces an intermittent sequence of pulling and release. The patient is strapped in position, and the machine is calibrated to the patient’s condition, based on their care plan.
The traction pulls and releases, gently stretching the spine, increasing the space between the vertebrae, and creating a negative pressure between the vertebrae, allowing the disc to move back into its proper position. Nerve function is enhanced, and blood flow and nutrient exchange improves in the injured area.
This gentle, non-invasive procedure provides relief from:
- Bulging discs, herniations and protrusions
- Sciatica/nerve pain
- Disc compression/degeneration
- Stenosis
- Post-surgical pain
- Lumbar/cervical radiculopathies
- Osteoarthritis
- Arm/leg pain and numbness
- Chronic neck/back pain that wont respond to traditional treatment
Pain Relief & More
A complete program targeting the function of the stabilization ligaments, tendons and muscles is a vital part of the therapy. Regular home exercise and periodic visits to our office help maintain spinal health and reduce the probability of recurrence.
Our goal is to not only help heal the disc, but to enhance muscular control and support of the back and neck. Results show this form of motorized traction has been effective in over 75% of the patients treated. Most patients find long-term relief, or effective management of their pain, when they complete their entire program of care.
